Lake Palestine
While there is no official count of eagles populating the Lake Palestine area, some estimates put the number of eagles at upwards of 40-50 year round and migrating birds. Six known nesting pairs produced young in 2005. Three known offspring were produced off 2 monitored nests in 2006. The easiest accessible nest in perhaps the most bizarre location is the trio of eagles nesting directly on the east side of hwy 2661. This trio has 2 nests, one of which is just a few feet from the road, right next to fast moving cars and many stopped cars trying to get a good look.
Another oddity of this nest is three adults maintain it instead of just a pair. This has been the case for at least the past 3 years, we believe it is 1 female and 2 males - and all actively share in the responsibilities of building the nest and raising the young. Often only 2 are present, but many photos have been taken with all three birds in the nest at the same time.

Care must be taken not to disturb the birds, as is the case always when eagle watching. This location provides a small amount of room on the shoulder of the road to pull over and get out to watch. The best times are from mid January thru June, when the eggs are laid, hatched and then as the young get ready for their first flight.
