Muskegon River
There are several nesting pairs of eagles along the Muskegon River and the eagles remain present year round. One of the most scenic trips you can take is by canoe or driftboat from the boat launch below Croton Dam to the Thornapple Landing. An early morning trip through this stretch of river provides ample opportunities to view all types of wildlife including eagles, osprey, herons and kingfishers.
Eagles can be seen soaring above the river, sometimes in pairs. And occasionally, if you are very lucky, you can quietly float along shore and pass underneath an eagle perched 20ft above in a tree which we had the pleasure of doing this past summer.

Boat rentals are available from Wisner Canoe Rental in Newaygo and a driftboat with guide service is available by contacting Betts Guide Service.

A roadside park off Hwy 82 just west of Thornapple Road is another place to view for soaring eagles as the lookout gives a broad view above the river.
