Public Viewing Spots
Rockport and Skagit River
Ninety miles northeast of Seattle the Skagit River flows past Rockport. Here is the largest concentration of eagles in the lower 48 states. The eagles feed on the 5 species of salmon found in the river during the salmon runs, which peak from December thru March. The main area of viewing is between the cities of Rockport and Marblemount (approximately 8 miles), often hundreds of eagles can be spotted along the entire stretch of Sedro-Woolley to Newhalem (approximately 55 miles).
The river runs along highway 20 for most of this stretch and eagles can be seen anywere near the river - often feeding along the river in the mornings or perched in trees in the afternoons or soaring high above in large groups riding the wind currents.
